Northside Drive Pedestrian Bridge – Atlanta, GA

This is a design-build project for a 1,200 ft long pedestrian bridge / ramp over Northside Drive near the new Mercedes Benz Stadium.  This project is designed to improve interconnectivity between the Westside neighborhood, downtown Atlanta and MARTA. The project began construction in March of 2017. The project is extremely challenging due to the coordination required with GDOT, MARTA, City of Atlanta, Georgia World Congress Center, and the Mercedes Benz Stadium contractor. Georgia Bridge and Concrete is the lead contractor on the project with Clark Patterson Lee providing the engineering and architectural design.

The work includes a three span bridge supported on drilled caisson foundations with concrete columns and hammerhead caps. Each span is supported with AASHTO Bulb Tee girders and a poured in place concrete deck. The approach ramps are supported my MSE walls with an ADA accessible poured in place concrete slab across the top. The visual highpoint of this project is the custom designed and fabricated aluminum skin tunnel across Northside Drive and its LED lighting components. The project also includes pedestrian lighting, landscaping, site work, and utility relocation work.
