SR 128 Over Flint River – Crawford County, GA

This was a design-bid-build project for a new 780 ft long bridge over the Flint River plus  reconstruction of the approach roadway in Crawford County, Georgia for the Georgia Department of Transportation. The bridge was built for Robinson Paving Company who was the prime contractor performing the roadway grading and paving. The bridge contract was valued at $3,817,000. This project was completed in 2016 after traffic was shifted to the new bridge and the old bridge was removed. This project was unique due to environmental restrictions caused by an endangered species of mussels living along the banks of the river.

The work included construction of an eight span bridge supported on drilled caisson foundations and driven pile foundations. All eight spans were supported by different size AASHTO concrete girders with a poured in place concrete deck. This project also included construction and removal of rock jetties into the river for construction access, installation of a deck drain system to divert roadway runoff away from the river, and removal of the existing bridge and foundations.
